Hand washing:-Hand Washing Definition:
Hand washing is a act of cleaning hand(hand hygiene) with water and soap to remove the viruses, bacteria microorganisms, dirt or other harmful and unwanted substances.Why it is important/Importance of Hand Washing :-
Hand washing prevent infections because people frequently touch their eyes, nose, mouth, hair, skin etc. without realizing .Germs can get into the body through the eye, nose etc. and make them sick.Hand washing is the most important measure to avoid the transmission of harmful germs and prevent health. Hand washing is a simple way to avoid getting sick.
Right way of hand washing:-
Following are the 13 steps of hand washing.
Hand Washing Time:
You should wash your hands for the amount of time, it takes to sing "HAPPY BIRTHDAY' twice around 20 seconds.
- Wet your hands with clean water( warm or cold).
- Apply enough soap to to cover all hand surface.
- Rub you hand palm to palm.
- Rub palm to palm with finger interlaced.
- Rub back of hand with palm and same with the other hand.
- Back of fingers to opposing palms with finger interlocked.
- Rotational rubbing of left thumb clasped in right palm and same with the other thumb.
- Rotational rubbing, backwards and forward with clasped fingers of right hand in left palm and same with other hand.
- Rub each wrist with your opposite hand.
- Rise thoroughly under running running water.
- Dry hands with disposable towel .
- Turn off water tab using disposable towel.
- Apply alcohol based sanitizer.
When should you wash your hands:-
Key time to wash hands.
- Before and after consuming foods and drinks.
- Before and after treating a cut or wounds.
- Before and after handling raw meats, raw poultry of or other raw foods.
- Before serving foods, beverages, setting or waiting tables.
- Before putting gloves on or anytime you take gloves off. .
- Before handling preparing any food item.
- Before and after caring for someone at home who is sick .
- Before and after using public transportation .
- Before and after touching phone(mobile)or devices.
- Go to the grocery store.
- After using the toilet, urinal or any time you visit the restroom for any reason.
- After touching face, hairs, cloths or any part of your body.
- After handling a tissue or hanker chief.
- After sneezing coughing or scratching any of your body
- After touching an animal, animal feed or animal waste.
- After touching garbage.
- After handling money or receipts.
- After shake hands.
- After smoking, chewing gum or chewing.
- After changing a nappy or diaper.
- After touching a contaminated surfaces.
